Meet the friars

St Augustine's Church is more than a parish.

It's under the care of the Augustinians, a Catholic order of friars.

Five friars are currently in permanent residence at the Priory.

What is a friar?

Throughout St Augustine's life, he encountered God through family and friends - the important people in his life. Therefore  Augustinians are people who decide to live in communities where relationships are at the heart of their experience of God.

The friars - a name which comes from the Latin for brothers - live, pray and work together. They form the beating heart of our parish community; the bonds of friendship they develop between themselves are extended to the wider parish.
